Feasibility & Pre-application of Detached Listed Building in Bradford
About the Project
This project involved the extension of a Grade II listed dwelling in Bradford to provide additional bedroom and living accommodation. Due to the heritage sensitivity of the building, the brief required a carefully considered design approach that respected the character, scale and significance of the existing property.
Plans Direct was instructed to prepare a feasibility study and develop a pre application strategy, including early consideration of Listed Building Consent matters. As part of the process, we carried out a massing study and explored both traditional and contemporary extension options, each designed to remain subordinate to the original building.
The main design challenge was achieving a clear functional improvement for the client while ensuring the proposed addition complemented rather than competed with the listed structure. The result was a well considered design approach that balanced practical requirements with heritage sensitivity.
